Bernie Walsh, RIP

The Marie Keating Foundation is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Bernie Walsh.

The impact of some losses is difficult to put into words, and losing Bernie is one of those occasions. It is hard to articulate just how amazing she was and how very much she will be missed.

Bernie was someone MKF supported for a great many years, both when she was diagnosed with primary breast cancer and again when she was re-diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Bernie has been a member of our Positive Living group since her re-diagnosis, and has been such a valued member, bringing positivity, empathy and a big welcome whenever new members joined.

Bernie featured in one of our Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaigns, Out The Other Side, and bravely shared her story to help increase awareness and encourage others to go and see their doctor if they noticed symptoms. She was also a regular face in our Survive & Thrive Fashion show which celebrates survivorship and those living positively with and beyond a breast cancer diagnosis.

Bernie walked 3 Caminos in aid of MKF, helping to raise vital funds for our services and she was always the first to volunteer if we ever needed help at events or bag packs. Bernie’s heart was as big as her smile.

Our heartfelt condolences to her children, Daniel and Ciara, family and friends. We will miss her terribly, always in our thoughts and never to be forgotten. May she Rest in Peace.
