Because we know, no one should have to quit alone!
Did you know that according to recent figures, more than 28% of smokers smoke more now than they did before the pandemic?
We know that smoking accounts for 13% of cancer diagnoses in Ireland each year, and almost 90% of lungs cancer cases, however these can be prevented.
This Lent, we are teaming up with our friends at Nicorette to launch our Quit Smoking campaign, aiming to help support both new and existing smokers to make a plan, and quit smoking not just for 40 days, but for good.
However, this is easier said than done.
We understand that giving up smoking can be extremely difficult, but we are here to help. We believe #NoOneShouldQuitAlone, and so, our team of specialised nurses, and our three Mobile Information Units are stocked full of free take home leaflets and resources that can help get you started.
With thanks to Nicorette, our nursing team and Mobile Information Units will be travelling across the country, visiting community centres, businesses and pharmacies, to help you stop smoking from today. This is a free services, so all you need to do is check out our Mobile Information Unit schedule here, find a location closest to you, and pop in and say hello!

Keep an eye out in pharmacies across Ireland for promotion of the Marie Keating Foundation and Nicorette partnership!
The Marie Keating Foundation’s Associate Director of Nursing Services, Bernie Carter explains “Smoking is a key risk factor for a number of cancers, including mouth, lung, breast and bladder, and also increases the likelihood of other chronic illness such as heart disease and stroke. The pandemic has been incredibly stressful, and it is no surprise that a significant portion of smokers, have increased their habit during this time. A core ethos of the Foundation is to be there for people at every step, and our nursing outreach services are delivered in communities to offer the information and support people may need to take that important step towards improving their health.”
While the number of smokers are falling in Ireland, the National Cancer Registry predict that by 2035, over 4,700 cases of cancer diagnosed will be attributed to smoking. Help us to prevent this by doing your part, and quit smoking this Lent.
