What is BRCA

BRCA1 and BRCA2 are human genes that produce tumour suppressor proteins. These proteins help repair damaged DNA and, therefore, play a role in ensuring the stability of the cell’s genetic material. When either of these genes are altered, such that its protein product either is not made or does not function correctly, DNA damage may not be repaired properly. As a result, cells are more likely to develop additional genetic alterations that can lead to cancer. For more, click here.

For people diagnosed with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene alteration, it can be difficult to find support and advice from people that understand the journey you are undertaking.

We provide a host of free services for people with a BRCA alteration which include the following:

  • We host a free in-person BRCA conference annually, usually in May.
    You can see a recording from our 2025 conference here.
  • We have a dedicated BRCA section on our website here. 
  • Our Peer to Peer (P2P) Support Volunteer Service. (you can see more about our P2P support service below)
  • We also host 6 Online free BRCA support meetings per year. To register your interest in one of our BRCA Online Support Group Meetings and to connect with others that understand, click here. 
  • Our BRCA WhatsApp group is self-administered but overseen by the manager of our BRCA services.
