Tom Murphy

Tom was diagnosed in November 2012.

In 2012 while playing golf with his son and his friends in Florida, Tom noticed a bump on his arm, where he had had a mole removed. Tom showed this to one on his son’s friends who happened to be a surgeon. Thinking that something was amiss, the surgeon took Tom to see a colleague of his, a dermatologist.

Tom had the lump removed. The lump was tested and a week later, Tom learned that the lump was, in fact, a malignant melanoma.

Tom underwent his treatment at the Mater Private under Professor John McCaffery. After a year and a half, Tom got the all clear. However, within two months the melanoma was back, when another lump appeared on his arm. His lungs had been compromised as well.

This treatment saved my life. Melanoma is a very rapid cancer, so this breakthrough is far beyond anything they, or I, had hoped for. To have come through this is a miracle of science.
