TV3’s Anna Daly and Martin King lace up for the fight against breast cancer

TV3’s Anna Daly and Martin King joined forces today to launch the second annual Pigsback 5k and 10k in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation. The event will take place at 10am on Sunday, 9 October 2016 in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. Registration is €20 for the 5km event and €25 for the 10km event with a family ticket costing €50. The event will be chip timed, making it the perfect challenge for a seasoned runner seeking a new personal best, or for someone who is new to running and wants to test the waters. The Pigsback 5k and 10k in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation will also be a fun family day out with entertainment, goodie bags and lots of prizes. All proceeds will go to fund the charity’s life-saving work in breast cancer awareness and services.  For more, see www.mariekeating.ie/events.

Speaking at the launch, Anna Daly said, “Research has shown that getting enough exercise and keeping a healthy weight can reduce your risk of breast cancer and other cancers so that’s the perfect motivation for me to train for an event like this. 5k is just over three miles which is an achievable distance for all ages and abilities. At the Pigsback 5k and 10k in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation, you can run, jog or walk your way around the course and know that you are helping to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause at the same time.”

Martin King also spoke at the launch, saying, “Each year, nearly 3,000 women in Ireland are diagnosed with breast cancer which means nearly all of us have a sister, a wife, a mother or a friend who has had the disease. The good news is, more and more women are surviving but we still need to support the Marie Keating Foundation so that they can spread the message of early detection, help people who are coping with the effects of the disease and support cancer survivors as they return to life after treatment. Taking part in the Pigsback 5k and 10k is a great way to show your support for the women in your life and this great charity. So get out there and train and get your friends and family to sign up with you for the big day on Sunday, 9 October 2016.”

John McDonald, Managing Director, Pigsback.com, said “Pigsback have long been a proud supporter of the Marie Keating Foundation. Last year, Pigsback customers and staff raised over €27,000. This year, we want to beat that and this event is a big part of that effort so join us in supporting this small charity which has huge energy and helps an amazing number of people each year. It will be fun and a great way to focus on your fitness. There will also be lots of Pigsback prizes.”
